Wednesday night the Lady pioneers were in action on the soccer pitch versus the South Spencer rebels. The weather was perfect for a very physical match up. BHS got off the mark quickly after Maya Cobb earned a penalty in the box and coolly slotted home the free kick to give the Pioneers an early lead. Before the half the rebels evened the score after a long shot just trickled out of the hands of Lilhey Stockdale. After the half BHS put on the pressure, scoring after Morgan Poellein hit the post, when the clearance fell to Maya Cobb just outside the box. Maya calmly placed a left footed strike in the back of the net. With 20 minutes to play, the rebels capitalized on a loose ball and scored an equalizer. Boonville never gave up though, and 6 minutes from time Morgan Poellein battled into the box, received an assist from Maya, and finished to the far side of the net to win the game. Grits of the game award goes to Morgan for never giving up, despite being fouled at least seven times during the game. Ava Kelley, Mad Dog Strahle, and Ellie Tieman were tireless in pursuit of the ball. Katelyn Davis and Gracey Franz made some excellent plays in midfield. The back line of Kayla Weiss, Nikki Snow, Hannah Barnhill, Irie Squires, and Kindel Virgin did an excellent job of clearing the ball out of dangerous positions. Way to go ladies! Shout out to the birthday girls Lillyan Shoulders and Alexis Sinani! The pioneers are back at it on Tuesday vs Mt. Vernon.
